Hi Helen
I can tell you all about how we did consultation trigger maps in the West of Scotland, for the 12 planning authorities we advised, though it was a long time ago and I don't know if they still do the same thing! Are WoSAS on this list?
Essentially it involved turning the "raw" HER monuments and designations datasets into a layer with simple polygons that said whether to consult us and/or Historic Scotland, plus a very simple index of what was in the areas, plus general guidance and training as to what kinds of applications needed consultation. The process relied on reliable flagging of every record as to relevance, plus good location data. The production process was automated and run at regular intervals, originally to make 1:10K paper maps, later just a digital product for loading into their planning systems. However, we usually also checked the weekly lists, as the ability to use the consultation trigger maps sensibly was variable. Where LPAs did use them, it made for earlier consultation and better outcomes.
Whether it met the guidelines in that document I have no idea.
Yours
Crispin

Hi Helen,

I suspect the 'guidance' was withdrawn along with all other documents associated with PPS5.
But wasn't it only ever a consultation document? Though I'm no expert, as the City has no district councils as a second tier.

You're evidently not in Heckington, and as you'll note neither am I.

Chris

Subject: Constraint and Alert Mapping

Hi all,

Thought I'd bring this up again (!!!).

A while ago we started work on our layers working to the HER21 Guidance: http://www.helm.org.uk/content/docs/HER21_Alerts_and_Constraints_Maps.pdf

However, since this Guidance was then withdrawn, what's happening with the idea?

Has anyone successfully made some constraint/alert mapping that they're using with district/borough councils as part of the planning process?

Would be interested to hear of people's experiences before we start trying to make our own, again...
