As part of our ongoing project around London and the First World War, here is details of our event Emergency!


Emergency! First World War and London 1914-18
Friday, 19 September 2014 from 10:00 to 16:00

A day focused on the lives and times of Londoners during the First World War. Their experiences can be discovered across a range of fascinating records. Hear about the work of the London County Council, the role of women, teachers in the War, the aftermath of Zeppelin raids and conscientious objectors.

Guest Speakers include:
Mike Berlin, Department of History, Classics and Archaeology, Birkbeck, "Aliens, internees and refugees in London, 1914-1918"
Alexandra Hall, Institute of Education, "Teachers & the Great War"
Ben Copsy, Peace Pledge Union, "Censorship and Conscientious Objection"
