The big obstacle to managing groups is STILL the fact that there is not a DSK associated with Group enrolment (i.e. it is missing from the GROUP_USERS table).

Without that there is no way to differentiate from group memberships created via the user interface and those created via your snapshot process.

There lies madness.

Like Raúl, we’re also self-hosted which allows us to compare our import data with the current data in Blackboard, and therefore just run a Snapshot for any changes (delta files) each hour.  This makes the Snapshots run quickly – only a minute or so.

Therefore new users, courses and enrolments appear in Blackboard within an hour, but an overnight Legacy Refresh removes any old users, courses and enrolments, and updates other details such as course and user names.  This system works well.

This frequency is required as we have a self-service system for courses whereby lecturers request a course themselves, and select the enrolments from their timetables or MIS codes.  They therefore expect the course they requested to be available fairly quickly.

I’d also be most interested in any way to programmatically populate groups; I don’t think this is possible through the SIS Integration; I submitted an enhancement request for this back in November 2012 L  We’re using the Group tools a lot to split larger courses, so finding an automatic way to feed this from SIS data would be extremely useful…

We run snapshot every day - each hour, and we spent 5-6 minutes in each of them. But the trick is that we are in self hosted and we can compare the SIS and Blackboard Database.

Sometimes the system doesn’t update immediately, and sometimes the system doesn’t update J and we don’t know why….

Another question.

Someone knows if there any possibility to create groups and group-users in a course using any Integration?. I know the tool ABGM but it doesn’t work in the way that we need.

Thanks.

We have it scheduled to run twice daily, but during enrollments it can be 3 or 4 times a day

It usually takes up to half an hour to run

The BB gui displays the updated data as soon as the Blackboard database has been updated

I’ve experienced few issues over Snapshot itself, but more around the complex integrations that feed into the Snapshot process (Like SITS integration etc)

Hi all,

In the light of speed issues regarding our SIS process, I have a few queries for those of you running Bb SP14:

·         How often do you run a snapshot/SIS feed?

·         How long does it take to complete?

·         How long does it take the Bb GUI to catch up and display the updated data?

·         Have you experienced any issues in your own institution?

Any information would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Richard.
