An event as part of Through the Door
A collaborative project between Poet in the City and Archives for London
The Cathedral Poems: Imtiaz Dharker at St Paul’s Cathedral
At 7pm on Monday 29th September
St Paul’s Cathedral, London EC4M 8AD
Poet in the City and Archives for London have commissioned new poetry from seven leading UK poets to uncover the stories of London’s archives. This is the second in a series of events as part of Through the Door, which will showcase this new poetry for the first time and explore the inspiration it has taken from the fascinating material in the archives.
Hosted by Canon Mark Oakley, and with the first reading of new work from acclaimed poet Imtiaz Dharker, this special event will take us behind the scenes at St Paul’s Cathedral. The poems uncover fascinating stories from the Cathedral’s damage during the Blitz, while absorbing its unique atmosphere and breathing new life into hidden corners.
Join Imtiaz Dharker, Cathedral archivist Sarah Hale and Canon Mark Oakley, as they explore how poetry can expose the beating heart of this historic building.
This event is free to attend, but places must be booked via: www.imtiazdharkerttd.eventbrite.co.uk
