Dear all

The Royal Statistical Society is seeking new Education Committee members, to support a range of practical initiatives to help improve statistics education and statistical literacy. Grateful if you could forward to appropriate teachers, educators, statisticians and other suitable UK-based individuals.

The Education Committee's three main areas of interest are statistical education practice, statistical careers’ promotion, and the development of statistical literacy. Committee members can be involved in a range of practical initiatives, such as contributing to the publications of the Society and website resources such as StatsLife; help to devise, organise and stage events; and provide advice to the vice president for education and statistical literacy and to Society staff.

The committee's terms of reference is available from:

http://www.statslife.org.uk/members-area/member-news/latest-call-outs-to-members/1727-rss-education-committee-seeks-new-members

This document summarises its role, aims and objectives. You do not need to be a member of the Society to be appointed to the committee, though membership is encouraged.

The committee is expected to meet two or three times per year, usually at the RSS offices in London and members will also be called upon to assist with projects at other times. Appointments will be up to five years.

The Society is seeking expressions of interest from UK-based professionals involved in educational aspects of statistics and statistical literacy. If you are linked in with different communities and organisations interested in this area, or are able to relate to statisticians and teachers, trainers and educators, in schools, colleges or universities, and are interested in practically helping the Society to improve and support statistical education and statistical literacy, then the Society would value your contributions to improving statistical education and statistical literacy in the UK. You will gain insights into the Society’s work and contribute directly to it. Your service on the committee would also count towards the Society’s Continuing Professional Development requirements.

Appointments are unpaid, but reasonable travel expenses will be covered.

To apply, please send a short email to Scott Keir, head of education and statistical literacy, [log in to unmask] outlining your skills, experience and interests. There are a limited number of committee places to be filled, with the final selection to be made by the vice president for education and statistical literacy, Neil Sheldon. Please apply by close of 30 September 2014.

With best wishes

Scott
