This course is provided by the Welsh Government. It is open to staff and volunteers working in museums, archives and libraries in Wales.
This course is suitable for museum / archive / library employees and volunteers who:
- are thinking of undertaking / being part of an oral history project
- deal with oral history collections
Aim
The aim of this course is to explore ways to conduct and record oral history interviews. This will include handling different types of equipment to use.
By the end of the course participants will have:
- had an informal and practical introduction to oral history interviewing
- an opportunity to handle recording equipment and discuss some of the issues around oral history, life stories and memory.
Training Methods
- Audio-visual presentation
- Practical work
- Group discussion
Preparation
If course attendees already have recording equipment that they intend to use, they are welcome to bring it to the course, ideally with the user guide.

Keeper of Social & Cultural History at St Fagans: National History Museum; Vice-Chair, Regional Network Representative of the Oral History Society; British Library/Oral History Society accredited trainer.

Registration requests are limited to 2 per organisation however we are happy to waitlist any others in the event the course is not fully subscribed. Once you have submitted your request the last screen of EventBrite will say “You’re going to ……” and you
may receive an email “registration confirmation” for the course. This is not a confirmation of a place for you. It is a confirmation that your request has been received. Please note your place is not guaranteed until you receive an invitation to the
course from CyMAL.
