I am with you on this Charles., I have to say I was astonished , and checked the rules and of course it is within them, but I feel not a very sensible action by John, even though as you say John is committed and has given a lot to the profession.

Cilip and its Council etc. seem to have their own little world.

I have just been reading the Annual accounts, what can I say, just look, for instance, at membership, and group membership (the trends). If I was running this organisation as a business I would be concerned. However I also note that the organisation has a well-known and respected firm of solicitors, accountants etc., so recent suggestions of council members to be ‘appointed’ (almost said anointed!)for their specialist skills, is, as many of us have said, not necessary.

Subject: John Dolan rejoins CILIP Council in Tom Roper's place

Let me make it clear I have absolutely nothing against John, who is a very honourable gentleman who is 100% committed to CILIP's success, but I am astonished at this news.  If I had been rejected by the electorate at the last Council elections, I wouldn't have the nerve to accept a casual vacancy co-option offer, and nor should Council have offered it. It demonstrates a degree of contempt by Council for CILIP members' views.

It's very difficult to make me nearly speechless, but this news has achieved just that.
