Dear all,

I'm emailing you to let you know about a forthcoming event that might be of interest. The launch of Jean-Pierre Filiu's latest book Gaza: a History will be held on Tuesday, 2nd of September, 2014 at 6.30pm in The Auditorium, Amnesty International UK. This book is the first comprehensive history of the region in any language; it is the story of struggle to control Gaza from the mid-19th century to the present (http://www.hurstpublishers.com/book/gaza/). This book discussion has assumed even greater importance because of its pertinent timing; it comes at a time where the history of the region has become relevant in order to understand the factors that lead to the conflict and tensions afflicting the region today.

Jean-Pierre Filiu is professor of Middle East studies at Sciences Po, Paris School of International Affairs, before which he was a career-diplomat who served as a junior officer in Jordan and the USA, before becoming the French Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) in Syria (1996–99) and in Tunisia (2002-2006).  His book The Apocalypse in Islam was awarded the main prize by the French History Association. His books and articles on the Arab world have been published in a dozen languages and he has vast media experience.

Further details of the event can be found at: http://www.caabu.org/events/caabu/gaza-origins-current-crisis-and-where-next-caabu-and-amnesty-international-book-launch-. Please don't hesitate to contact me at [log in to unmask] if you have any questions.

Looking forward to seeing you at the launch!

Regards,

Mohini Gupta
