Digital Workplaces: vision and reality - Martin White

Course Outline: 
There is a lot of interest in 'digital workplaces' as a potential vision for not only how organisations can work more efficiently and effectively but also build stronger digital working relationships with other organisations, for example in the support of open innovation. This course will set out the characteristics of a digital workplace, provide an overview of some of the enabling technologies (cloud computing, mobile and collaboration) and then focus in on organisational challenges that need to be addressed in developing a digital workplace environment.

Some of the elements of the workshop will be:
    Ten features of a digital workplace
    The business case for developing a digital workplace
    A summary of the outcomes of the 2014 Digital Workplace Trends survey
    The importance of an information management strategy
    Skills and roles for information professionals in a digital workplace
    Supporting virtual teams
    The impact of mobile and tablet devices
    Legal implications of digital workplaces
    Scenarios for achieving a digital workplace

Who should attend: 
Managers who have a responsibility for the role of intranets, collaborative working and social media applications and who need to be able to take a role in the development of their organisation's digital workplace strategy

CILIP's Professional Knowledge and Skills Base (PKSB):

Course Presenter: Martin White
The course will be presented by Martin White, Managing Director, Intranet Focus Ltd. He has been involved in technology forecasting for over twenty years, is the author of The Intranet Management Handbook and also the author of an award-winning paper in Business Information Review in 2012 on the evolution of digital workplaces.
