Research Data Management for Information Professionals - Andrew Cox and Eddy Verbaan
Venue: CILIP, 7 Ridgmount Street, London, WC1E 7AE
Date: Wednesday, 24 September, 2014 - 09:30 - 16:30

Course Outline:
There is an increasing understanding that data collected during research needs to be managed more carefully. It is in researchers' own interests to do so, and increasingly funders also mandate data planning. The scale, diversity and fragility of digital data make this challenging. Universities are beginning to develop a support infrastructure that will help improve research data management. Some libraries are already beginning to play a key role in defining and delivering this infrastructure.

The course encompasses the skills require by librarians and information professionals to support all stages of the research process, offering an introduction to Research Data Management (RDM) and the role of librarians and information professionals.

Programme covers:
The nature of research and of research data
    The digital curation lifecycle
    Practical data management
    Library roles in supporting RDM
Roles of other professional support staff
First steps in RDM for libraries
    Job descriptions for RDM roles
A guide to resources and further learning materials

Who should attend:
Information professionals and librarians with an interest/responsibility for supporting research, especially RDM
Any professional wishing to keep their skills up to date.
