Subject: NC conference on Culture, Identity and Perspective

Reply-To: Missy Gluckmann <[log in to unmask]>

What:  Culture, Identity and Perspective - The Melibee Swarm - a new type of conference (and a great option for international educators!)

Culture is everywhere. It explains how we communicate, what we believe, how we interact with others, how we work, how we define relationships, how we learn, how we dress, how we see gender roles, how we lead...and so much more.  If cross-cultural interactions, identity and perspective are a top priority for you, then this is your <affordable> "conference!"  Welcome to the Melibee Swarm, where we will break away from the standard conference experience to explore the theme of Culture, Identity and Perspective.  We'll do so through experiential and process-driven learning using tools such as photography, writing, storytelling and the use of reflection to support the process of integrating this lifelong learning into your professional and personal lives. A roster of talented speakers will teach and guide us on this intimate journey.

Outcomes:

- a more skillful, practical way to explain the value of intercultural competency to your colleagues and personal contacts.

- innovative ideas for fostering authentic intercultural interactions  - whether it be in your personal life or in your work (higher education, study/education abroad, teaching, administration, community organizing, volunteer work, etc).

- new ways to think about "Culture, Identity and Perspective," including who you are and how you contribute to dialogue (locally and globally) across these topics.

- a more expansive and meaningful network of those who engage in depth of conversation about cross-cultural interactions. This expanded community of international educators will be a lifeline for ongoing professional and personal development.

- action steps that are meaningful, do-able, inspired and relevant to your work and life. The goal is that you walk away with a vision and act upon it instead of taking a bunch of notes and putting them in a pile on your desk. After all, there is no point in swarming if you aren't going to ACT with passion as a result of our time together.

Speakers:  Six talented speakers have been selected for their unique perspectives on culture and their ability to translate their life experiences into engaging stories/training tools. We expect that you'll appreciate their new angle on culture, identity and perspective. (With enough enrollment, we plan to add another speaker - so please register early!)

Schedule:  A day and a half of experiential exercises, interactive training sessions and reflection periods will keep us busy and stimulated. You can see a draft of the schedule here

Where:  Asheville, North Carolina -  home of the Biltmore, a top 10 foodie, music and culture destination located in the NW corner of the state.

How much? A lot less than you'd think! The "early bee" registration ranges from only $107 -  $187 for a 1.5 day conference. Group rates (2 or more people) are also available! (Email me directly for more information). You can learn more on the registration page.

When:  October 14th at 3 pm through October 15th at 6 pm

FAQs:  More specific information is available here.

More information: The full website for this conference is available here. http://swarm.melibeeglobal.com/

The team and I ask that you please pass this along to your colleagues and friends who may be interested. Do be in touch if we can be of any assistance!  Many thanks for your time and consideration - and for helping us to spread the "buzz."

Peace,

Missy
