Spatial Data Specialist

Location : Edinburgh
Closing date : 26/08/2014
Salary : £24,000
Employment type : Fixed Term

The Crown Estate has a role like no other business.  We ensure that the assets we invest in and manage are sustainably worked, developed and enjoyed to deliver the best value over the long term. Our business includes the whole of Regent Street, much of St James’s, Glenlivet, Windsor Great Park, hundreds of thousands of acres or rural land and coastline, and the UK’s seabed.

But it’s not just our size and diversity of assets that sets us apart, it’s the way we work. Everything we do is aligned to our core values of commercialism, integrity and stewardship, and we are committed to doing what we say, tackling our work with spirit and commitment, and working collaboratively with colleagues and partners.

This role offers a fantastic opportunity to join The Crown Estate’s team of spatial data specialists involved in the GIS Data capture and maintenance of our marine and rural property assets.

Focusing on our assets in Scotland, you will assist with processing casework relying on the GIS data capture of marine and rural properties using pre-scanned maps, deed plans, title records and the internal Horizon property database. You will also work with other members of the spatial data team to produce legal plans, information plans and fulfill ad-hoc requests for other data.

With a BSc or MSc in Geographical Information Systems/Science (GIS), you will have demonstrable practical experience of ESRI software and extensions (e.g. ArcGIS) and a wide knowledge of the full range of OS products and services, plus National Grid and Admiralty charts of various scales and sizes. We will also be looking for experience of research and data gathering and you will possess excellent attention to detail, interpersonal skills and the ability to work well on your own initiative and as part of a team.

Experience of using large corporate databases would be desirable and some travel to London may be required as part of this role.
