Someone mentioned Blue Velvet, but Lost Highway - Mystery Man in the first half  - and Mullholland Drive - the Man Behind Winkies - are surely scarier.  And follow them up with something from X-Files - maybe the Lynchian  'Home' (Season 4 episode 2)?

Hallo all, can think of 2 films where fear concerning a natural setting occurs: there is 'Picnic at Hanging Rock' [1975] set in 1900 where 3 students & a teacher disappear onto the Australian Bush; you see the people remaining being struck dumb & being haunted by this. Also 'Passage to India' [1984] , action occuring in 1920's, shows the effect of the Indian Marabar Caves on English ladies - extreme claustrophobia & an apparent attempted rape. Best, Ange.
