Research Fellow - Manufacturing Systems Modelling and Simulation
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual with good multi-disciplinary team working skills to plan, design and undertake applied research in patient-centred production system for genetic therapies. The post holder will develop and provide knowledge to the industry-led project team on manufacturing systems simulation (e.g. discrete event simulation), production layout design and lean manufacturing. You shall be working within the newly established Operations Excellence Institute at Cranfield. You are expected to work closely with Oxford BioMedica and use state of the art Virtual Reality and simulation techniques for the new production system design.

You will have a honours degree or equivalent and a PhD (or close to completion) in manufacturing/engineering in a topic relevant to one or more of the following: operations modelling and simulation techniques, shop floor layout design, manufacturing systems efficiency improvement, lean manufacturing and process improvement and modelling of healthcare systems or production systems. Any experience in shop floor layout modelling using Virtual Reality would be preferred.

The position is part of the Department's initiative in sustainable healthcare. The post is partially funded through Advanced Manufacturing Supply Chain Initiative (AMSCI) to develop the system in order to produce and commercialise gene-therapy products.

Deadline for application: 2nd September 2014.

Expected interview dates: 12th September 2014

The project will begin as soon as possible thereafter.
