2nd call for papers and extended deadline: Community Energy Policy

People, Place and Policy (PPP) seeks contributions to a special issue on community energy, to be published in December 2014. This reflects the increasing academic and policy focus on community energy in the UK and elsewhere, with the UK government producing its first Community Energy Strategy in early 2014. As an emerging academic domain, literature has tended to explore the nature and scope of community energy as a movement within the UK; and the drivers and barriers to growth (see Seyfang et al., 2013). There is, however, a growing literature that seeks to critically appraise both community energy policy (see Walker et al, 2007) and the impacts of new energy infrastructure on communities (see Cass et al, 2010). This special issue aims to provide a forum for further reflection and debate around this swiftly changing environment for policy and practice.

Potential contributors are welcome to consider community energy in broad terms but we are particularly interested in contributions that provide critical perspectives on the following issues:

-        the UK Community Energy Strategy / UK community energy policy more generally

-        international comparative perspectives on community energy policy

-        community energy in areas of deprivation (urban and rural)

-        community energy support infrastructure

-        community energy ‘entrepreneurs’

We encourage potential contributors to consider the aims and scope of the journal (see www.ppp-online.org). In addition to empirical research we welcome concise, policy-relevant commentaries.

If you would like to contribute to this special issue, please email a short abstract (no more than 200 words) to Will Eadson ([log in to unmask]) by Friday 12th September. Informal enquiries can also be directed to this address or to Richard Crisp ([log in to unmask]). Successful submissions will be notified by Tuesday 16th September, and the deadline for submitting final papers (3,000-5,000 words) for peer review will then be 7th November.

About PPP

People, Place and Policy is a peer-reviewed, open access journal that provides a forum for debate about how policy shapes the risks, opportunities and constraints that face people and places in contemporary society. Its aim is to foster dialogue between academics engaged in researching societal challenges and the policy-makers or practitioners charged with responding to these challenges.

PPP is interdisciplinary in scope and welcomes a range of contributions including empirical studies, policy analysis, methodological and theoretical reflections as well as ‘think pieces’ exploring contemporary policy issues. Submissions are subject to peer review and should be 3,000-5,000 words in length. Notes for contributors can be found here: http://extra.shu.ac.uk/ppp-online/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Notes-for-contributors.pdf
