Gareth, Sarah

The problem with some of the references in EUGRIS (including my piling report) is that they link back to Environment Agency pages that no longer exist. The e-mail exchange has prompted me to send a note to EUGRIS to draw this to their attention.

In principle EUGRIS would be a good solution, but they need to have something to link to.

I agree with Gareth - Eugris is where I find most of the documents that I can't seem to find elsewhere anymore….

Subject: Re: Other guidance documents

It seems that a lot of EA technical guidance documents have fallen victim to the government's drive to reduce the amount of guidance issued by regulatory bodies.

The result is that much codification of good practice is in danger of being lost.

One example is a document I co-authored in 2000 on Piling and Penetrative Ground Improvement Methods on Land Affected by Contamination: Guidance on Pollution Prevention  (Report no. NC 99/73).

Fortunately a quick Google search brings up a full copy of the document, but not from the Environment Agency. And if anyone needs a copy I can forward it on request.

Regardless of government policy, I don't think we should be acquiescing in the politically motivated redaction of important technical guidance, any more than we would regard book burning as acceptable in a democratic society.

Is there some way (other than using Jiscmail) that a freely accessible electronic library of such documents could be kept, maybe via CLAIRE or CIEH?

Could anyone help me locate a pdf copy of Environment Agency, 2009, Petroleum hydrocarbons in groundwater: Supplementary guidance for hydrogeological risk assessment
It seems impossible to find most documents on the new web site.

Thanks in advance,
