Dear All,

The National Archives will be running various training workshops during 2014-15. A full list of what's available will be on our website soon. But in the meantime here is a list of our September events and how to book:

Equality and Diversity workshop, Wednesday 3 September 2014, 9.45am - 4pm

This workshop will introduce the legal and good practice framework for equality and diversity, and how these apply to the work of archives. The workshop will explore how good equality and diversity practice is "good for business" and strengthens the way archives develop their collections, increase audiences, enrich workforces and provide new routes to funding. The day has a practical approach, to develop a short action plan for each delegate.

The one-day training will be delivered by Krishna Kaur, The National Archives Equality and Diversity Co-ordinator and Isobel Hunter, Head of Engagement.

Spun out services workshops, Friday 12 September 2014, 9.30am - 4pm

The National Archives has recently commissioned guidance on the process of "spinning out". Spin-out is the shorthand term used for the conversion of an in-house service into a social enterprise, mutual, charitable trust, local authority trading company or a transfer to community management. The guidance outlines different models for service spin-outs and their implications for archive services; highlights key regulatory and good practice issues that need to be addressed; and explores business planning and what is different about operating in a spin-out. The training will accompany the published guidance by exploring some of the key issues in more detail. It will include case studies and lessons learned from existing spin-outs, as well as workshop sessions for delegates to think through the implications of spin-out for their own services and to identify what further advice and support they can draw on.

This will workshop will be led by the Eric Bohl, from the Activist Group.

The workshops are free to attend and available on a first come first serve basis.
