DwBİ\Training Course: Working with data from official statistics in Europe

particularly the European Union Labour Force Survey

 

Ljubljana (Slovenia), 17İ\19 September 2014,

hosted by Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia and

Social Science Data Archives at the University of Ljubljana

 

One of the core objectives of Data without Boundaries is to promote the use of integrated official

statistics in Europe. The Data without Boundaries project seeks to inform the research community on

possibilities for application and the potential for social enquiry of official European microdata.

To this aim Data without Boundaries, in cooperation with Eurostat, is organizing a series of three day

training courses on integrated Eurostat datasets. Courses will provide information on available

microdata in Europe as well as ways to access these data. This fourth course will focus on the

European Union Labour Force Survey (EUİ\LFS). The training is hosted by the Statistical Office of the

Republic of Slovenia and the Social Science Data Archives at the University of Ljubljana; other

partners involved in this course are Eurostat (Luxembourg), GESISİ\Leibniz Institute for the Social

Sciences (Mannheim), R¨Ĥseau Quetelet (Paris) and INSEEİ\Institut National de la Statistique et des

Etudes Economiques (Paris).

 

The course is aimed at post graduate and senior researchers from throughout Europe who are

seeking to conduct research on the basis of the EUİ\LFS. Besides highlighting the legal and

administrative aspects of data access the course will demonstrate the possibilities of the EUİ\LFS in a

handsİ\on computer session which will explore the potential for both international as well as

longitudinal analysis. Basic understanding in multivariate statistical methods and SPSS will be

required.

 

The course will take place in Ljubljana, Slovenia from the 17th to the 19th of September 2014 and will

consist of the following parts:

 

Part I: Overview of European Data from Official Statistics

Part II: Introduction to LFS

Part III: Practical Training Session
