Hi Guys, It sounds promising. I was aware of the frontloading of the work necessary to make it a successful project, though it appears you have managed to get through that stage swimmingly. Running a POC seems like a sensible step for us to take during the next academic year. Steve I'll contact you off list Cheers Dave WCT From: Support issues for windows in UK HE & FE [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Gregory, J Sent: 30 June 2014 10:00 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: Deep Freeze Echo similar experiences with deepfreeze. We have used it in pc labs and lecture theatre builds for years with the already stated benefits. One issue that we have had was trying to get it to work with Kaspersky Antivirus. This was in regard to a thawed space on the PC to allow an AV update on each boot. A lot of work went into this and at the time we did not resolve this. That was with previous versions of Kaspersky and deepfreeze. Keeps machines clean and tight plus all our users know that all data is wiped clean after a restart so they cannot leave any sensitive data behind provided they restart. We have not quantified savings either but have now started freezing staff machines because we are convinced it will save us hours of sorting out machine issues where users install/delete/rename/fiddle etc... with things. You do need to invest some time to set up some WOL groups and send out maintenance plans then machines will wake on lan, run scripts (but this is not very sophisticated), windows updates, go to WSUS etc... and refreeze during a maintenance period. Down side is that if a user loses power or restarts and they have not saved a file, it is gone so we have a default background saying this. Make sure you unfreeze prior to installing anything or it will be wiped clean ;-)) Personally I think that this software has been a great investment. The massive benefit is that students can't accidentally or deliberately mess things up; we've never tried to quantify the support desk savings but I suspect that they're massive and certainly outweigh the cost of the software. Happy to have a visit if that helps.
