Exploring the difference between rural and urban walking?

Walk and discussion at the start of Edinburgh Festival

Friday 1 August

Part 1 walk: 10.30 am  Summerhall: 1, Summerhall  EH9 1QH

Join us for a walk around Summerhall, Edinburgh’s old veterinary school to explore its surroundings as well as its many corridors, cupboards and lecture halls; many of them still undiscovered. The  two hour performative walk will be led by artists Tim Knowles and Ania Bas, who have been undertaking both urban and rural walking in the UK and elsewhere.

Part 2 panel discussion: 2pm Creative Scotland, Waverley Gate, 2-4 Waterloo Place, EH1 3EG

The walking action will be followed by a panel discussion with the artists, chaired by curator and writer Dave Beech. Other rural and urban walking artists will take part, including Gill Russell and artist/poet Alec Finlay, with whom Deveron Arts has been working this year on the Hielan' Ways project.

A Deveron Arts project organised in collaboration with Edinburgh Arts Festival supported by Creative Scotland, Aberdeenshire Council and Heritage Lottery Fund.

Co-curator: Nick Wong
