Will
I would say it would be a completely new element of the classification scheme as it is a completely different functional area.

Some of the retention information can be found in the NHS Code of practice (not sure if a more recent version is aviable)
https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/200139/Records_Management_-_NHS_Code_of_Practice_Part_2_second_edition.pdf

I will also send you a draft file plan I created a wile ago when Public Health was first transferring.

Thanks
Tony May

Subject: Public Health Functional Classification

Hello all,

Just wondered if anyone knew if there was a Public Health Classification Scheme associated with the functions which returned to Local Authority jurisdiction last year.

A quick look at Statutory Instrument 2013/351 (The Local Authorities (Public Health Functions and Entry to Premises by Local Healthwatch Representatives) Regualtions 2013 suggests that a reasonable structure might be:
-Public Health

--Weighing and Measuring of Children
-- Health Check Assessments
-- Sexual Health Services
--Public Health Advice Service
--Protecting the Health of the Local Population

But where should this be added to the Classification Scheme....is it a function in its own right or should it be part of an existing function....neither Adult Care Services nor Children and Families Services seem wholy appropriate...then again neither does Community Safety and Emergencies!

Have any other Local Authorities tried mapping a Public Health classification schema to their file plan and is there already some linkage with Retention Schedules. Any thoughts would be most welcome.

Sincerely,

Will Bell
