We have thought of that and we offer a course which used  identical modules but without the practice element. Consequently it does not confer SCPHN registration. It had been getting increasingly difficult to secure placements. Finding PTs for those in practice is not usually too difficult although meeting NMC standards requires creative approaches.  placements for those moving into OH is challenging.
You make a good point re HEIs not providing placements (ie expecting students to find their own placements) not offering OH courses. If that were the case many courses would be forced to close which would dilute the specialty.  We required students to find their own placements as a result of the number that refused the placements we had provided.

If oH nursing is to survive we need more PTs - volunteers would be very welcome.
Would you be able to assist us perhaps?

I’m sorry to hear the situation is no better for Practice Teachers. I did my course with Robert Gorden University and found finding a Practice teacher very stressful and challenging. If the University offer the course, I believe they should provide a register of Practice Teachers available. Otherwise why offer the course?

Good luck,

Subject : [OCC-HEALTH] Practice Teacher

I am wondering if anyone can help me.

I am about to start my Occupational Health degree with Robert Gordon University (Aberdeen) on the condition I find myself a practice teacher.

They need to be on the third part of the register and hold a practice teacher qualification.

I am based in Northern Ireland and I’m struggling to find one.  Could anyone help?

Kind Regards

Amber
