Hi Kate
Ideally levels should not rise above 50 lux and there should be no UV at all, this is recommended for a period of 3 months only.

All the best

Vicky

Subject: light levels for exhibiting herbarium specimens

Hello

We would like to loan some herbarium specimens to a small museum in Dunbar for an exhibition about John Muir. Can anyone clarify what the safe level of light exposure is for herbarium specimens exhibited in display cases? 'Fifty lux (intensity) and 10 microwatts per lumen of ultraviolet radiation' has been suggested. What's the easiest way to measure this, and for what period of time could specimens safely be displayed at this level(they will be covered out of visitor hours)?

Thanks

Kate
