The changes in learning and
access to academic resources by members of the public including via
public libraries raises issues that are discussed by Alison Tyler in an interesting
blog post today: “Helping people to access research via libraries”
http://libalyson.wordpress.com/2014/07/21/helping-people-to-access-research-via-libraries/
It cites an article: “Access
to Research: ‘a big step forwards’ or a ‘stillborn access
initiative’?” I’ve written for ‘Access’ -the
online journal of the Public and Mobile Libraries Group (PMLG) of CILIP –on
the publication page of my website:

Subject: Access to research: Public libraries providing free access to
academic articles and research
Libraries participating in the Access to Research service
are listed here http://www.accesstoresearch.org.uk/libraries
The service seems to be ramping up but there are still a lot
of public libraries *not* listed yet. I’m pleased to say that my
local library authority is in the process so I’ll be looking forward to
getting free access to what could otherwise be very expensive journal articles.
Access to Research is now on Twitter @A2R_4libraries
