Dear GEMmers, As my contribution to a hot sunny Friday afternoon, I'd like to invite those of you who use iphones and ipads to download our new cool free HeartHighland app from www.hearthighland.org. It's a very quick download! This app provides a directory (Explore), an events calendar (Celebrate) and a 'Share' facility for those visiting the Highlands and Moray (or those who'd like to be, on a hot sticky Friday in the south!). It is unusual in that it is designed to allow visitors to search sites starting from own interests, rather than purely providing an alphabetical directory of often-unfamiliar places. For the first time ever in our area, museums, NTS properties, castles, countryside sites and other heritage attractions such as steam railways have pooled their data and events in one place. We hope to extend it to Android next year, and for those of you who live or work locally and who do not have access to an iphone or ipad, the events calendar is duplicated at www.hearthighland.org. Please have a play with the app - all feedback welcome (off list, to avoid driving any technophobes bananas). I am particularly fond of the content in the Share section - some great photos (now captionable) and poetry both in Gaelic and in English, so more Friday afternoon upload contributions there very welcome! If anyone else is thinking about a similar project I would be more than happy to talk through our 'appy' pilot experience this year. The app funding partnership comprises Highland Museums Forum, the National Trust for Scotland, Moray Heritage Connections, Highland Highlife, Museums Galleries Scotland, Highland Council and Homecoming Scotland 2014. There are some fabulous events listed - over 200 of them. Have a wonderful weekend - wild swimming and a Highland flowerfest (check the app!) for me, I think, and I look forward to seeing GEM folk at Bannockburn on Tuesday.
