I have seen a few for 8A which are not aimed at clinical staff but they are in London/large cities and cover broader sites. Most of the 8A ones manage multiple sites including off site POCT services and don’t report to a blood sciences/biochem manager directly. They tend to take full responsibility for the department reporting to a pathology services or operations manager.

Hi Michelle

In my experience the post is an 8a when a clinical person has the title and more often than not a band 7 when you are a BMS.

Dear POCT subsrcibers

I have recently been appointed POCT co-ordinator at Blackpool, and the post is currently up for banding review. It was advertised as a 7, but the managers are hoping for it to become an 8a. Does anyone have any input as to how their role was banded? Were JAQs used, or was the job description written to match the band? I seem to understand that there are a number of band 7 and band 8a POCT co-ordinators throughout the UK.

Regards

Michelle
