Web Developer

You will be working in the Internet Systems Team within Technical Services and will be required to work with the team improving the corporate website (Polopoly and Wordpress), portal (MUSE) and other web systems, using a range of skills including HTML5, CSS and Javascript (such as JQuery). Developing web-based systems using Java, Node.js or PHP and working with other web application developers (who develop using Java, Oracle and a range of Java frameworks – primarily Spring) is also a key part of the job. Providing development support with prototyping of applications, and designing user-friendly and accessible web interfaces is also an important part of the role.

The position has plenty of opportunities to learn about new technologies as they emerge to advise on how best we can use them to improve our current systems. One role of the team is to provide specialist advice to colleagues across the University on making the best use of web technologies.


Web Support Officer

You will be working in the Internet Systems Team, within Technical Services and will be required to work with the team re-developing the cPanel web hosting service. The role requires solid PHP and MySQL skills, and experience of the cPanel web hosting environment would be beneficial.

The project will look at redeveloping the existing cPanel service to be robust and manageable for the future. This will include supporting departments, research groups and individuals to audit and upgrade their accounts, and working on processes which will ensure the ongoing maintenance and updating of cPanel accounts in the future.

Providing advice and guidance on making appropriate use of tools such as the central Content Management System, Google Sites, Google Drive and MOLE (our Virtual Learning Environment) to host content where appropriate will also be an important part of the role. The work also includes the migration of accounts from the existing server to the new infrastructure.
