Oliver,

Can you confirm the start time of this event? Your email says 5:30 pm, but the automated calendar entry when you register says 6:30 pm.

I suspect the actual start date is indeed 5:30, and somewhere along the line someone didn't take into account the difference between GMT and BST, but it would be good to have a definitive answer.

Cheers,

Iain

The event:

The first in the Guardian Science Policy Blogs events series. Four short talks on the subject of 'what role can social media play in science policy?' followed by open discussion. Following the reported influence of the 'Geek Movement' on the online 2013 Libel Reforms, and among ongoing political and academic debates over the place of social media voices (and data) in policymaking, there are clearly a series of important questions to be asked. Is social media really living up to its claims to correct the inaccuracies of print media and put new voices into closed discussions? Do campaigns around evidence-based policy or medical trial data raise issues separate to other debates over social media? How might social media usefully bring various concepts of expertise - whether scientific, political, or social analytic - into the service of public dialogue over science policy?  The talks will address a range of viewpoints: personal and organisational involvement with social media communication and campaigning; research into social media analytics and policymaking; and the policymaking 'audience' for social media.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

With all best wishes,
