The National Acquisitions Group makes an annual award designed to promote
excellence, original thinking and innovation by a library or individual
within the field of Acquisitions.

Entries are now open and nominations of up to 250 words can be sent by
e-mail to the NAG Office ( <mailto:[log in to unmask]>
[log in to unmask]). The nomination should provide the name(s) of those
involved, the organisation they work for, explain the changes introduced and
the benefits these gave to the library and its users. Please note that the
nominee(s) need to be members of NAG, individually or through their
organisation.

The closing date is Friday 11th July 2014, and the winner will be chosen by
the NAG Executive Committee and will be presented at the 2014 NAG
Conference. The winning submission will also feature in an article in Taking
Stock and on the NAG website.

The NAG excellence award is in its fourth year and is awarded at NAG annual
conference held this year in York. The award is sponsored by Nielsen
BookData.

To give a flavour of last year's winner -

Launch of the e-book service in Derbyshire County Council working with the
Askews and Holts ebooks team.

Derbyshire County Council introduced eBooks in July 2011. They identified
critical factors - market forces, customer needs and new technological
developments which resulted in entry to the eBooks market at the optimum
time for their audience in Derbyshire.

The project outcomes included-

Almost 25% of users were new or lapsed users

Up to 3,000 e book issues per month

And probably one of the most important outcomes was that the project
demonstrated the currency and relevance of the public library offer in
Derbyshire to customers, other DCC Departments and elected members
