Really glad it seemed to have the same impact on you Julian.

It was fascinating hearing the project team and their use of the video. They said it was useful to raise awareness amongst staff in their institution. They also said the autistic students found it equally interesting and valuable to understand others felt the same.

That suggested to me that although empathy is said to be a challenge for this group of students, facilitation could in part help to challenge issues of 'ability.' In other words, given the right kind of support, it was possible they could indeed empathise.

It certainly made an impact on the people there having that kind of window on the lives of these students. That's a window that's previously been opaque until now.

Best Wishes,
Nick

I’m not normally compelled to write, but that’s quite some video.  Many thanks for the link, Nick.

Subject: Autism in HE Support/Awareness Video

Dear All,

I was fortunate enough to attend a project presentation today at the European First Year Experience Conference. It was given by a project team in Belgium. They are exploring & supporting transition into post-secondary education for students with autism.

There were very few in attendance so I thought I might try help their cause by sharing their web site, & it contains a wonderful online video, with people on this list. The site is not in English but the video has English subtitles.

I'm sure many will find it interesting and useful as a resource to raise awareness and offer support. Hope you agree.
