italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies

Comparative Literature and Italian Studies.

Can I draw your attention to the publication of the volume "Sicily and Scotland: Where Extremes Meet," edited by Graham Tulloch, Karen Agutter and Luciana d'Arcangeli. Troubador Press, £14.95.

The work is based on a conference held in Flinders University, Adelaide. There are chapters by individual writers in Scottish and Italian Studies and includes comparative analyses of Pirandello and R L Stevenson, Scott and Lampedusa, Sciascia and Ian Rankin, and of representations of Sicily and Scotland in film. In addition there are examinations of travellers in Sicily and a separate chapter on Patrick Brydone's visit to pre-Napoleonic Sicily. There are also chapters on the experiences of Sicilians in Australia, and the autobiographical account of the American artist Thomas MacPherson, who in spite of his name and half his ancestry views himself as Sicilian. He also did the striking cover designs. And more!

It is expected that this volume will become a collector's item whose value on Ebay will soar in coming months and years, so speed in making a purchase is recommended.

Joe Farrell, Professor Emeritus, University of Strathclyde.
