Building on Gareth's comment:

Multure: mill toll; a payment for grinding corn at the lord's mill. As tenants were generally bound to take their grain to the manorial mill, multure formed an integral part of the lord's income.

From http://www.lancaster.ac.uk/fass/projects/manorialrecords/glossary/

Presumably a local term, reflecting the additional income derived from this obligation.

Hi Helen,

I think the 'other' meaning of suitor is prospective buyer?

Cheers!

Subject: Windmill suitors!

Hi all,

I would like to rephrase some info from the Victoria County Histories but I'm not sure quite what it means! I have 'windmill belonging to Wittlebury Manor mentioned in 1288, but had no suitors after the Black Death in 1349'. Anyone know exactly what's meant by suitors in this case?

Thanks,

Helen Wells
