I'm sure it has provided much entertainment and given how little I know the Humber region you might get better answers to your picture quiz :) Sarah MacLean Heritage Information Partnerships Supervisor English Heritage ________________________________ From: Issues related to Historic Environment Records [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Winfield, Hugh Sent: 19 June 2014 11:20 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: Picture Quiz - Final part Ooops, I meant to send this to Sarah, not the entire list! I recognise most of the MonTypes, but not the actual places :( A - A fortified medieval house somewhere B - Wroxeter Roman Town C - That WW2 fort that was re-used for pirate radio? D - A castle E - A henge with stone circle F - A medieval chapel G - A windmill H - Carlisle Castle? I - Portsmouth? Probably a customs house. J - Thingy Guildhall K - This is an odd one, it has features similar to a searchlight battery but isn't quite right. L - A ticket booth. A banner in the background says "Metropolitan" suggesting it is in one of the big cities, as does the backdrop with a river, large bridge and fine buildings. M - A kink in a Roman Road with nearby enclosures N - A DMV, I would make a stab in the dark that it is Wharram Percy as that is the most famous. It doesn't look quite right for a Northern Lincolnshire DMV. O - A Martello tower with a pillbox on top P - A hillfort near Salisbury Q - Looks familiar, but I can't place it. For some reason I think there is a river/canal/lake behind it. R - A London train station, maybe Euston Street Station? S - Another Hillfort, one of the big ones but definitely not Maiden T - SS Great Britain As payback, any idea where the buildings in the attached scans are? They are probably in Humberside somewhere, but not North East Lincs - they were in with some slides I inherited from the old Humber SMR. Now you have all the pictures you should be able to start putting them in chronological order. I don't mean in the order in which the photos were taken (even I can't work that out with the information I have about them) but the chronological order of the sites in the photos :) Just to be clear! I hope you have all enjoyed the quizzes. I look forward to receiving your answers over the coming week. All the quizzes are available to download at https://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/filearea.cgi?LMGT1=HERFORUM&f=/Quiz . A big thank you to EH Archives team for supplying most of the photos. A big thank you also goes to Chris Wardle (Leicester City HER), Helen Wells (Leicestershire HER), Bruce Mann (Aberdeenshire Council), Anna Morris (Gloucestershire County Council), and David Evans for submitting questions.
