Traditional Building Skills Day at Chiltern Open Air Museum

If you've ever fancied trying your hand as a builder, or live in an old
house and would like to discover more about heritage repair work, Chiltern
Open Air Museum is holding a free traditional building skills day on Friday
11 July.

It provides a practical introduction to working with heritage building
materials including wychert (a limestone / clay earth material unique to the
local area) and lime-based products such as plaster and render. There will
be a range of interactive sessions and discussions led by the Museum's
buildings team and Colin McGugan of Owlsworth IJP. Lunch and refreshments
will also be provided.

The day is based around Chiltern Open Air Museum's most recent rebuilding
project,
<http://www.coam.org.uk/about-us/historic-buildings/haddenham-croft-cottage/
> Haddenham Croft Cottage, which opened to the public for the first time
this season. It is part of a project supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund
that aims to work with community groups and volunteers to furnish and
interpret the cottage, create education activities and build a wychert
garden wall with visitors.
