I don't think there would be much to do as - unlike the superheroes collection - its more of a finished piece.

Yes, I think I could do that. I'm not sure Kay will be up for it, as is having a dreadful time at work (one which is likely to continue). Golnar very probably will. Shall I contact her?

All best

Mel

Thanks Mel
Are you up for the edited collection - there should be enough material and the authors would be accredited as you, Kay and Golnar?

First issue all present and correct!

The second issue will be....

Yasco Horsman on Spiegelman and Sendak (no images)

Ariel Khan on teenage titles called 'On being Unique' (black and white images)

Barbara Postema Following the Pictures: Wordless Comics for Children (no images)

Gutierrez on children and comics in the Philippines... (4 images, 1 in colour)

Golnar's 4 page interview with Shaun Tan. I may have to send the interview to you. Don't know if it has been through the system.

Golnar's article on Tan

Hoping that helps...

M

Hi Mel
Is it possible to send me a list of the contents of the two issues - it doesn't have to be full but an indication. I was chatting to Kimberley Smith who does the journal into books at Routledge and she expressed interest in making the two issues into an edited collection. If you feel this is something you, Kay and Golnar might be interested in pursuing I can send the info to her then you'd have to compile a proposal like we did for the superheroes and identities book (which comes out in December).
I have the following for issue 5:3 but need the other stuff from 5:4.
-Walking Dead by Mark Heimerman (8 images in black and white/grayscale)

-GDR comics by Sean Eedy (no images)

-Practitioner piece by Rebecca Palmer (lots of images! Figs 4 and 6b in colour, all others to be in black and white)

-Beryl the Peril by Robert Shall (no images)

-Blended narratives by Zbaracki & Geringer (6 images, Figs 5 and 6 in colour).

Regards
Joan

Suspect we need a chat soon.

Way ahead of schedule, at the moment, re 3&4 in terms of articles that seem valid and well articulated. Very diverse in relation to theoretical approach and views of childhood, but that is part of the point. Good international spread too.

Will need to cross check with you about what goes in where and when. I have files about both potential editions. A couple of recent articles sent to me recently for review also suggested childhood angles, so, if they work, might be useful additions.

Permissions nearly all through (including below). Walker been the most awkward so far. Others all straightforwardly supportive.

All best

Mel

Subject: FW: The Journal of Graphic Novels and Comics Permissions query Hi there,

Ploughing on with the Childhood Specials. I think one more article is due in.

Most of the permissions in place, but Walker books had a number of queries (see below), to which I don't have the answers. I suspect you will tho'!

Would it be okay for you to respond to this enquiry?

All best

Dear Alex,

Thanks for contacting me. I can answer your queries about the specific images I would be using - they are ten images, five from each comic - some are a single page, some are a few panels, so part of a page. In terms of your queries about the journal, I am copying in Mel Gibson, whom I believe will be editing this special edition. She will either have this information, or be able to put you in contact with someone who does.

Very best
Ariel Kahn

Dear Ariel,

Thank you for your permissions request regarding Walker Books two titles SALEM BROWNSTONE and SKIM. Your request has been passed along to myself so that I can deal with your request.

I hope that you can provide me with some additional information regarding the publication, The Journal of Graphic Novels and Comics, so that the permission request can be dealt with as efficiently as possible.

Please can you provide the following information:

* The print run of your publication

* The proposed languages your publication will be made available in

* The territory in which your publication will be distributed

* Which images/text/pages do you wish to reproduce in your publication

* The price of your publication

* What will the electronic aspect of your publication be (i.e. made available for access on the internet/ an ebook edition of the work/etc)

With this information I will then be able to begin processing your permissions request in a much more efficient manner.

Thank you for your help in this matter,

Best wishes,

Alex Bradshaw
