Hi there Jacqui

I am a stand alone OHA with no physician backup and we have on occasion
RIDDOR reported cases where the GP has diagnosed and written on the sick
note the diagnosis and I am satisfied that the work is repetitive and
the symptoms consistent with diagnosis. Where there is doubt our SHE
manager does an investigation and then decides whether to report or not.
We don't always agree. At the end of the day, you have given your
advice; make sure it is in writing. Pragmatism sometimes has to
supersede professional pride :) For the record when I think something
should be reported but have no formal diagnosis I recommend referral to
an occupational physician for confirmation of diagnosis, it then becomes
their choice as to how they manage it.

Hope that helps

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] tenosynovitis and RIDDOR

Hi All
I am not sure if this will get through- some have, some haven't ...yahoo
email and all that!

I have seen someone who has a fit note with tenosynovitis wrist on it.
From information given to me, during assessment, by the individual it
would appear to be related to work and I am certain it should be
reported under RIDDOR and have advised as such(i even checked HSE
website as i know reportable ODs changed recently)....enter mr awkward
manager who doesn't want to invite the "compensation" that may follow,
or alert the hse to a lone case (that I am aware of!!!) and obviously he
has spoken to elf and safetee and apparently- I am a nurse - what do I
know about RIDDOR!!???

his argument is that it has not been "diagnosed" which I argue is the
case as he has a fit note with it on- signed by a GP.
he then claims "it doesn't say work related"- I argue it doesn't have to
my assessment is that it is work related.....
then he says job "not repetitive" but I feel that an activity 150 times
per hour sometimes requiring awkward posture and grip strength- it could
be argued is repetitive.

Q- should I stick to my guns or is he right???

happy days
Jacqui
