medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Brenda,
Absolutely. Not exactly subtle!
Jane
Also known as The Dialogue of the Clerk and the Husbandman, this is printed in Robbins, Rossell Hope, ed. Secular Lyrics of the XIV and XV Centuries. 2nd ed. Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1955, pp. 180-1.
I think “Kyrie aleison” would also support your argument - there are a couple of typos in this edition but, for what it’s worth: https://archive.org/stream/songscarolsfromm00wrigrich#page/100/

stop press!
Brenda,
I think I've found it for you - The Clerk and the Husbandman BM Add MS 38666; the catalogue record gives f. 174 Poetry: Dialogue betw. clerk and husbandman, with refrain "Quia amore langueo,": 15th cent.: Engl.
I haven’t found a text yet, although it is discussed in this thesis https://archive.org/stream/middleenglishlov00clem#page/n185/mode/2up/search/amore

Thank you to everyone who replied to this query.
It now seems probable that the "2" religious poems may either be two parts
of an original or that the other was written in deliberate response to the
first.
And no one has come up with a secular love song. My disordered imagination,
perhaps?
Which is a pity because I was hoping to demonstrate that Latin tags like
this could be reused in different contexts.
Another hypothesis bites the dust!
