Last year the RCP purchased the 1500 Latin edition of the Fasciculus medicinae, an exceptionally illustrated medical incunable. Join us on 19 May to learn more about this beautiful book.

Peter Murray Jones is Fellow and Librarian at King's College, Cambridge. He is the author of Medieval Medicine in Illuminated Manuscripts (1998), and studies of the impact of the coming of print on medical knowledge and practice. Last year he conducted workshops on 'Epidemic print: medical incunabula and their readers' at Cambridge University Library.

The lecture will put the Fasciculus medicinae, published in both Latin and vernacular versions, in the context of the early printing of medicine in Europe. The book was exceptional in both its text and illustrations, but it clearly resonated with contemporary collectors and readers. It is still the centrepiece of any great collection of early medical books.

The purchase of the Fasciculus medicinae was generously supported by the Arts Council PRISM Fund
