The UK Data Service is seeking to appoint a highly-motivated Discovery Metadata Manager.

The Discovery Metadata Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Service's resource discovery tools, thesaurus products, data citation and metrics, with line management responsibilities for a small team of staff.

This is an exciting chance to contribute to the highly-respected and well-used UK Data Service.

The Service is a comprehensive resource funded by the ESRC to support researchers, teachers and policy makers who depend on high-quality social and economic data. It provides a single point of access to a wide range of secondary data including large-scale government surveys, international macrodata, business microdata, qualitative studies and census data from 1971 to 2011.

The Discovery Metadata Manager will be responsible for:

  * ensuring that users can find these data via Discover, our online catalogue
  * managing HASSET and ELSST, our thesauri
  * capturing impact and citation metrics

Among other skills and experience, the successful candidate will be a graduate (or have equivalent experience), with, desirably, a postgraduate qualification in Library/Information Science or Social Science.

The successful candidate must have experience of managing staff.

An understanding of the wider metadata/resource discovery landscape and experience of collating impact metrics is vital, while familiarity with thesaurus development is desirable.

This is a full time, fixed-term position until 30 September 2017. The UK Data Archive is ISO 27001, certified for Information Security Management.
