Thanks David - looks interesting... and coincidentally I've just been watching Bonnie Stewart's Guide to Social Media: http://www.slideshare.net/bonstewart/online-identity-working-in-and-on

A FREE event of particular relevance for learning development tutors involved in mathematics and statistics support:

Creating and Maintaining a Social Media Presence – enhancing our support for students

Date:  Friday 20th June 2014

Time:  10.00 – 15.00

Place:  Liverpool John Moores University

Social media is not just about sharing jokes and pictures of kittens. It is being increasingly used by academics to expand their professional networks, and to enhance the range and scope of support that they can provide to their students.  This FREE event will provide an authoritative overview for those who are still “relative novices” in this area, as well as highlighting ways to maintain and sustain this within a teaching and learning context. The particular focus will be on the needs and experiences of those working in Maths Support Centres or otherwise supporting students in mathematics and statistics.

This event is supported by the North West Regional Hub of sigma, the national centre for excellence in cross-university mathematics and statistics support.

Indicative programme (please bring your mobile devices):

10.00 – 10.30.  Welcome. Introduction.

10.30 – 12.00.  Getting the most out of Twitter and co. Tales from a battle-hardened user.  (Alex Spiers, LJMU)

12.00 – 12.30.  How can the sigma network website and mailing list work for you? (Janette Matthews, sigma)

12.30 – 1.30.   Lunch. Networking.

1.30 – 3.00.     Show and tell. Delegates share and reflect on their experiences and uses of social media. Top tips to take away.

For further information and to book a place, please contact Leslie Fletcher ([log in to unmask]) . Also contact Leslie as soon as possible if you would like to contribute a case study or other presentation to the day.

Attendees from institutions in the NW region may apply for essential travel costs to be refunded.
