We are currently advertising a job in the Nottingham Geospatial Institute at the University of Nottingham, working as part of the European Union Framework 7 Space Science Programme's PRoViDE (Planetary Robotics Vision Data Exploitation; http://www.provide-space.eu <http://www.provide-space.eu/>) project. We are recruiting a researcher with web-GIS development experience to create the "PRoGIS" component of PRoViDE, to enable exploration and processing of rover & astronaut image data archives of Mars and the Moon. The work will be carried out in close co-operation with the Imaging Group at University College London's Mullard Space Science Laboratory (UCL MSSL), the Technical University of Berlin and Joanneum Research in Austria who are responsible for other components of the PRoViDE information system and data archive. Experience in IT system development and Web programming are essential for this post. However this is a role in a research project, so evidence of the ability to publish research papers and to present work at conferences is also required. Excellent communication and team work skills are fundamental to the success of this project. Experience with Open Geospatial Consortium standards and/or developing GIS applications on the Web would be an advantage. Ideally too candidates should hold (or shortly due to be awarded) a post-graduate qualification or equivalent in planetary science, remote sensing, GIS, engineering, mathematics, computer science or a closely related subject.
