Walking to escape past life: Blessing Bell (Sabu), Dolls (Kitano), Nothing Personal (Urszula Antoniak), to a lesser extent Into the Wild (Penn). Urban walking/flaberie - lots of examples e.g. Naked (Leigh). Desert crossing/wandering might even constitute a separate sub-genre: in addition to the various Australian film suggested Paris, Texas (Wenders ); sometimes as a result of war - The Beast (Reynolds) - or imprisonment - The Way Back (weir) - or displacement. Walking as challenge - polar expeditions, jungle treks..
Have you considered walking as pilgrimage? Plenty of films to find there, too. And walkers who encounter monsters, psychopaths etc in various horror films?

Dear Film-Philosophers,
I am teaching a course in the fall on the philosophy, literature, and cultural representations of walking. I am looking for films where walking plays a central role to either show in the class or to reference. So far my list includes The Way, Wizard of Oz, Walkabout, Meek’s Cutoff, Walking (Canadian short), and the Way Back. Can anyone help add to my list?
