I agree with Louise. If students do not use their bi-lingual dictionaries here they get the extra time for use of the dictionary taken away from them too.

Sorry to dissent, but the extra time is FOR the use of the dictionary - we are very strict with our students that if we don't witness them using the dictionary then they won't be entitled to the extra time.  I would be concerned that you are opening yourself up to allegations of creating an unfair advantage.

Good luck,

Louise

Yes I had two students last year - I did exactly the same, just had to remind them to have dictionaries on their desks in case of inspection.

I even spoke to Nick Lait about them as they had no proof of entry date ....agreed I could use a payslip with 'first' tax code.

Hi Karen,

He is allowed to have a bilingual dictionary so just apply for it along with the extra time.  You cannot force the student to use it, but you will have made provision as the rules permit.  You wouldn’t be breaking any rules at all.

Good morning all

I am after some advice as like most of us my head is battered!

I have a student who has only been in this country for 8 months and is taking AS Level exams, he came to see me on Tuesday (first exam is Monday) about having extra time for his examinations.  He does not want a bilingual dictionary.  Brought in evidence yesterday from the UK Border Agency as they have held on to the family passports.  I applied for the extra time but was refused.  Is there anything else I can do – must admit I feel for the young man and  am toying with the idea of applying for the extra time with the bilingual dictionary – normally I am one to stick closely to the rules but this time I am tempted.

Help!?!

I know the Boards haven’t given us a very good start to the series what with late papers and documents, but good luck to you all, I hope we all survive!

Thanks

Karen
