The norm is to say a report from after the candidates 16th birthday.

Subject: Evidence required for IELTS testing

Hi Colleagues

Has anyone come across the following ‘Cambridge English and British Council’ guidelines in respect of IELTS (International English Language Testing System)?

In the case of applications for Special Arrangements for candidates with specific learning difficulties (e.g. dyslexia) the following criteria applies:

•        The medical evidence must be in the form of a report prepared in a period no more than two years before the test date.

•        The report must include details of the degree of disability.

•        The report must include an assurance that the evidence of specific difficulties was obtained through the results of appropriate and    recognised tests.

•        The report must be provided by a fully qualified educational, clinical or chartered psychologist.

A former student has approached us as he was tested with us back in 2008 and so is unable to provide a report that is ‘no more than two years before the test date’.  As the guidelines stand, his options seem to be to either not benefit from the extra time etc, or to pay to have an up-to-date test, both of which seem discriminatory given he already has a diagnosis, albeit 6 years old, by an Educational Psychologist.

I would be grateful for any experiences/comments.

Regards,
