Given this is a Trades Union (OK not a profit making organisation) the economics of this job work out rather interesting, seeing as Marx talked about the need to pay the labour force enough to reproduce itself.

Total wage gross inc London allowance, £31,300, plus unsocial hours maybe. Take home pay £24,200.

Assume you live in Bowes Park, a not exactly super-affluent area of north London.

2 bed flat to rent, from Rightmove, around £18,000 annually. Season ticket, annual, Bowes Park to central London £1,800.

That leaves you the grand salary of £4,400 a year for electricity, gas, water, council tax, food, clothes - I guess we can forget fripperies like holidays, leisure and pension. Or your partner can also work, I wonder what childcare costs in Bowes Park are?
