Hi,

If the only fix will be in the October 14 release, we'd have to run with this issue for 12+ months since we only have an August upgrade window.

Does this also affect announcements being email out to all users on a course?

Hi Martin

Hmm… I think (from the sounds of it) I hadn’t tested in a Course with enough users (I only tested in a Course with 7 users).

Will have another go in a different Course and will post back to the list with my findings.

It will be incredibly frustrating if we have to wait months for this to be fixed!! I think escalation is a good call. There is also a periodic “bug voting” exercise, where BB ask institutions to vote for bugs that should be fixed as a priority- so make sure you vote for this one (as will we!)

Thanks,
Anu

Curious that you’re not experiencing this but got this back from BB;

your institution is the 37th SP13 client that has experienced the issue. It occurs when you select all the users in a course.
If you select about 100-200 users, you will still get the error but the e-mail will go through. For now this is the only workaround available.
All tests have proved that the issue does not replicate in October 2014 release.

Please note that this has been cloned to bug. There is a javascript error generated, about the page not having the proper header:

2013-09-27 08:35:34 -0500 - java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Header must have a page title of some sort.<P><span class="captionText">For reference, the Error ID is e0e98c2f-624f-4132-9417-1f9698255e2f.</span> - javax.servlet.jsp.JspException: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Header must have a page title of some sort.

which is due to the header length exceeding the limit supported by web server. It happens when the list of successfully sent emails is returned to the page.

Hi Martin

Wow – 5 months is a long time and I totally understand your frustration!!

This is an important function for us too, so I had a quick go at testing (sending an email within a Course) as follows:

Course Tools > Send Email > All Users

We are also on 9.1 SP13 (9.1.130093.0)

I didn’t come across any issues, but perhaps I am missing something?? Happy to have another go at testing, if you can advise where I might have gone wrong J!

Thanks,
Anu

A support call here has revealed a bug in what I consider a core function – Sending Mail to All Users Causes Error and you will have to wait five months for a fix

Planned First Fix Release: Blackboard Learn October 2014

Affected releases; Version:9.1 SP13 (9.1.130093.0),9.1 SP14 (9.1.140152.0),Learn April 2014 (9.1.201404.160205)

See Article No.: 000034534

No suggested work-around but I found that using the select users option then selecting all seems to work – is it just me or has anyone else experienced this and again is it just me or is anyone else infuriated that such a fundamental function has no hot fix!

I’ve rejected the solution and asked for my case to be escalated...
