Industrial Approaches to Media: A Methodological Gateway to Industry Studies
Website Launch – research methods training initiative
The Institute for Screen Industries Research at the University of Nottingham is pleased to announce the online launch of
Industrial Approaches to Media
(IAM), a research methods training initiative. IAM is aimed at postgraduate and early career researchers interested in engaging with media industry professionals and companies to produce original and collaborative research. This new resource gathers blogs
and interviews with international scholars exploring methodological perspectives on the value and challenges of doing media industry studies and forming industry-academia collaborations. Launching the resource is:
Henry Jenkins (University
of Southern California) on the practical implications
of academia-industry collaboration,
Michele Hilmes (University of Wisconsin-Madison) on
the changing approaches to media industry studies,
and Amanda Lotz (University of Michigan) on
the current challenges facing media industry researchers.
The resource also includes blogs written by the IAM project team at the University of Nottingham, featuring
Matthew Freeman on the
value of historicising media industry practices and
Sam Ward on the
practicalities of interviewing media professionals.
We hope the resource is of interest to many scholars, students and media-industry practitioners.
* Spaces are still available to attend the IAM research methods
training event
