We have made things like it before, and I suspect the alignment of the
LED and opto sensor won't be that critical as the beam angle of most
LED's is quite large.

We will have circuits and details somewhere if you are interested.

Subject: SCATIR

Has anyone made or adapted a SCATIR switch? I'm thinking of of taking a
regular SCATIR sensor and house it in rubber tubing instead of the
Gooseneck type tubing it comes with but wondering if I'm going to break
anything! My guess is I will as the phototransistor needs to be in just
the right location for the axis of the IR source.. which could be tricky
to get right. Before I get out my tools I thought it would be wise to
ask about!

Many thanks

Will
