Emma, You ask a pertinent question.

Most labs have quietly ignored this requirement.

In my thinking, a suitable measure would be the total of false positives and false negatives as a percentage of the total sample. Exactly how this would be measures is an interesting question.

Just a thought. What do others think?

Regards,

Greg

Subject: Uncertainty of measurement in qualitative tests

Dear all,

We are starting to look at measurement uncertainty to comply with ISO 15189. Our microbiology colleagues were wondering if anyone has yet worked out a way to report MU on tests where the result is reported as positive or negative, but where a quantitative cut-off is used to classify this result as positive or negative?

Thank you.
