Professionally I use LinkedIn, with friends and family only on FB. I have enjoyed both reading and participating in discussions and debates on LinkedIn, which is set up well for knowledge exchange and sharing views.

I sense your frustration but I suspect this is more a reflection of where Facebook fits in the order of things nowadays. I joined it, some years ago, for matters social, not professional, and in fact now I don’t have anything to do with Facebook at all. I suspect that is true of an awful lot of people now. Even my sons, aged 19 and 21, hardly use it now -  but both have joined LinkedIn. I use LinkedIn a lot for professional work and I wonder whether LinkedIn might be a better place for Aacorn to have a group for discussions which can be read by other people who can then apply to join the group if they wish.

 

Just a thought.

I set the facebook-group to "secret" - because option 3 (Nobody – except members of the group - can see who is in the group or what they post.): Option 1=5, Option 2=3, Option 3=12. (I counted also those, who are not on Facebook and also those who confounded communication with visibility.)

This vote signifies:  The group is not existent beyond itself !

That is very significant, isn't it ?

 

The degree of misunderstanding and confused communication is also significant: there is no identity.

There is no shared or common understanding of the existence of that group.

It's without vision: a arbitrary mess.

Yes, Roman is one of the administrators with Konstantin Adamopolous and me.

When I had the "go" from the network to create the AACRON group on facebook,

I asked who will be administrator with me: Roman and Konstantin agreed.

 

Actually we are 72 members.

The AACORN facebook-group is very interesting – in my point of view – because I can

perceive the AACORNERS who are members of the group in a larger context, also out of the professional box.

 

The question of the group setting depends on what we want.

1. If the group setting is open, everybody can see who is member of the group and what the members post.

2. If the group setting is closed, everybody can see who is member of the group but only members can see the posts.

3. If the group setting is secret, only members can see who is member and the posts. (This excludes also students interested in our topic!)

 

Now there is that problem of administration,

because in setting 1. and 2. everybody can also ask to become member of the group.

But if someone want to become member, an administrators must confirm the membership.

That means, that an administrator must verify that the person who asked to join the facebook-group

is also member of AACORN.

We – the administrators - do that be verifying if the name of the person is on the list which Hilde sends around every three month. 

This is very boring !!! Because on several days there are up to 10 persons asking to become member of the group.

(And you can be sure, these people are not at all in the profile of our group, the most of them want only advertise.) 

 

If the majority of the AACORNERS who are actually member of the facebook-group want that the group-setting is "open"

we will change the proceeding so that the administrators are not obliged to do the boring job.

For example: Every AACORN-member who will become member of the group writes directly to one of the three administrators.

(This will be also the case for the "closed" setting.)

If not, the setting will be "secret".

 

Please give your vote, by answering: 1, 2 or 3.
